Don't know. Ad says Astro, but I've never seen them with anything but PVC cheapo wrap. And if someone went to the trouble, and expense, of re-wrapping them, I would have to snicker a little bit. I don't think they are Astro just from the wrap, but stranger things have shown up...

Yeah, there are newer MIT or MIC Astro sets, but Star did make an oval 'World's Supreme' Astro set. This could be an orange or gold sparkle 60s set. But I have no idea why the rack tom is in orbit...

Because of the name Astro maybe?

I can see the ads now: "Buy your Astro Drums today, and get the tom that's in orbit!"

Pretty hard to make out the lug shape, even on the C/L ad itself.I'm going to guess "Dixie" style Pearl stencil MIJ/MIT-early-mid 70's.Rivet ride looks cool.

Most likely 9 ply lauan. The tom mount is probably altered from the original hex-rod.

Look at the 69 Pearl Catalog on this site-the "Thunder King"has a snare very similar to the pictured one. The bass spurs are straight out(besides the bass being turned around)like most 70's stencils.Same construction as my 70's Royces.

I have seen 60's-looking Astro drums before. Hehehe...looks like someone got the tom arm installed backwards....short side into bass, long side into rack.
