Joodee! Joodee! Joodee! OW!

Picked up a really cool 20/12/14 MIJ kit today. Its called a "Joodee". Never heard of that one before! Would this be a Star kit based on the hardware? Seems nicer than the Pearl stuff I have had. The finish is really cool. Kind of a dark blue with black horizontal lines going on. Classy looking for sure.

This is probably the best condition MIJ kit I have come across. Everything is complete. No extra holes or anything. All the rods are there and in good shape, both bd hoop inlays. Little to no rust anywhere. A little chrome wear and one tiny split on the floor tom that I glued back down, but other than that...it is in killer shape. Even has the original tom batters. I added a NOS 70's Remo Ambassador Bass on the bass reso for that old school vibe. You should have seen it when I picked it up today. It had spiders and spider eggs all over it. Scary!!!

Anyway...cool kit, right? Thought Id share it.

Looks like one of the last lines from "Star"...but that is a new one on me as well...but I truly hope Joodee was a hottie, 'cause her name left little to desire, for real. The wrap is in the old cat scans from the early 70s on the TAMA site under Anniversary catalogs.

Wow!! Nice find! The tom mount looks to be a little more "heavy duty" than usual for the MIJs of the era, but maybe "Joodie" was intended to be more top-of-the-line? I'd never heard of that name before, either.

I agree with Bill. The first thing I noticed was an MIJ Tom mount that looked like it might hold up for more than a week. Cool kit.

Hey guys, what makes you so sure that it's a STAR kit?

To me, it is NOT a Star kit:

- the 'ball clamp' design (with a black plastic/ rubber ball inside) was never produced at that era by Star,

- the plate of the tom holder (at the bass drum) has a rectangular shape - STAR ones (and later Tama's as well) were rhombic (!) always or mainly,

- there's not the Star-typical wording (World's Supreme Drums/ World's Supreme Quality) on the badge, what should be there at a late Star (= early 70s) drumkit - acc. to the tom holder design, which dates it to a production in the 70s.

I may imagine that this could be a HOSHINO kit.

Nevertheless: it's apparently an extremely rare and nice find!

Hi, Ralf!

Hope all is well, my friend. When I stated that I thought the kit to be a Star, I was primarily going by the lugs and bass drum T-rods and claws. They sure look "Starish" to me. My Supreme Drums, a stencil of Star do not have the typical wording on the badge either, just "Made in Japan". I really wasn't aware that Star never produced the ball clamp design, even near the end. I bow to your expertise. I learn something everyday!

They say that the Joodee guitars were made by FujiGen who started making guitars for companies such as Hoshino Gakki (Ibanez), Kanda Shokai (Greco guitars) and Yamaha in the 70's. Not sure how that applies to the drums. Could these have been a Yamaha Stencil?
