Led Zeppelin was one of those "WOW!" bands when I was a kid. Maybe it was Bonham....Maybe it was Plant.....Maybe it was Jones.....Maybe it was Page....

...but, even more than the individual components, it was the entire band that added a certain hue to my life. That band made me want to play the drums even more.

Subsequently, people have compartmentalized the individuals and tried to overanalyze WHY they were the way they were. But, every time I've tried that, I end up seeing them all as just being "okay". In other words, I could never even imagine any one of them playing in anyone else's band. They were Led Zeppelin and that was it!

Speaking of Darwin, I think society has evolved to look at everything so closely (like under a microscope) that we sometimes are too close to just one individual aspect of something to really be able to get a sense of what the bigger picture is. "Can't see the forest through the trees" syndrome.

In any case, the name John Bonham will always mean something to me. He was the drummer in my favorite band! :)

Yeah, I think you may be right. I've had some heavy thoughts as of late. I am one of the countless influenced by him. He was a brilliant drummer. I sincerely apologize for any misconception here. I'm just speaking of our societies propensity to immortalize humans with no regard to the impacts beyond the obvious. It's just something I've been cogitating on as of late.We could probably just as easily ignore this as the inane ramblings of a fat old man. I'm good with that.

Without getting too religious/political/ranting. I have certain beliefs in life. Admiration of others talents and respecting those is one. Putting them on a pedestal above others, is not.

As my friends says, "Everyone poops" and when I meet and have met famous people, I remember that they poop just like me, nothing makes them more different than others, they may just have a lot more money or possesions, but when you strip them of that, it's the person all alone.

As far as a inane ramblings of a fat man.....I'm guilty of it too. Lay off the heavy thoughts, they'll eat you up. Mcjnic, I admire your knowledgs and posts, nothing against you brother, you're still aces in my book

Respectfully,

BBK

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Believe it or not, my favorite performance with JHB was an oddball bit. Paige and Jones and Bonham backed Donivan on Hurdy Gurdy Man prior to bringing in Goldilocks. That tune blew me away.

John Bonham didn't play on that song...Apparently Clem Cattini (whoever the f#@k he is) can be credited for "blowing you away". Jimmy Page didn't play on that one either: http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=1097.

It's pretty obvious you don't have any idea what your talking about as far as Bonham goes based on this gaff and your original post in this thread. As one who does put JB above all others, in terms of his playing, choice in gear and overall coolness, I would greatly appreciate it if you didn't comment on anything associated with him or Led Zeppelin for that matter.

On behalf of the Vintage Drum Forum (although I don't actually speak for everyone), we thank you for honoring this modest request. Good day.

For those who love (or simply respect) him, the BBC is replaying "The John Bonham Story" narrated by Dave Grohl. It looks like it's on BBC Radio 2 Tuesday at 10 p.m. (British time), but those who are interested should do their own research as far as time zones and availability to listen on the Web.

I can't find it archived anywhere on the Web. My guess (and that's all it is) is that the Beeb will replay this each year around the anniversaries of his birth (May) and death (September).

Hey, it's not that kind of forum. We can all disagree respectfully, and keep talking to one another... that's one of the things that makes this forum great. :2Cents:

It's on the Internet. It's from the legally ironclad site called "Songfacts". As we all know, that site is the be all to end all of truth for everything music related. I believe it was the nail in the coffin for Clarence Darrow in the Scopes Trial and ended up costing Harrison a bundle when it was used against him. Wow. You showed me. Yeah. I've really been put in my place.

I promise never to speak on or utter verbiage pertaining to or in connection with the band and drummer you so love. I feel an intense sense of guilt and will forever wear the Sash Of Ignorance, to be mocked and ridiculed at the will of all whom you deem worthy.

And you've read my posts so well. All the insults and disparaging remarks about JHB didn't get past you. My compliments. You are the better man. ...and thank you for acting in this manner to help illustrate the fruit of this very dead point.

My humble and sincere apologies to you, BBK. I get something in my mind and it needs to come out. Usually, they are FB'd. I erred by opening up here. I thought it was dead. Hopefully, it has been put to rest now. You did an honorable thing here that I seem to have inadvertantly tainted. Again, I apologize. I will try to keep these off these pages in the future.

Wow.... thirty years.

Not only his loss, but the loss of the band hit me hard.

They did the right thing, I think, by disbanding out of respect for John.

I was only twenty at the time, but it seems we lost a lot of musical greats during those surrounding years. Bummer

I have the honor to play on our church with Jon Hyde. Former drummer for Detective. The only band that got signed by Swan Song. He toured with Zep on the early 70's and he rehearsed with the Zeps once (he played the amber Vistalites) when JHB wasn't feeling good. He has such an amazing stories to tell about JHB that sometimes makes my head spins...
