John Bonham's kits.

Loading...

G'day to my vintagedrumforum mates! :).I'm forming a Led Zeppelin covers or tribute band.I'm trying to choose/decide what era 'Bonham" kit is his "the" most iconic kit.Articles i've read suggested because of quantities made &sizes

His amber vistalites are considered to be "the Bonham/Zepp kit".What's the genral consensus among both " Bonham" &Ludwig collectors regarding this?.

Ta mates

Ado.

P.S.What's the current value of a 70s amber vistalite in 'Bonham" sizes?

&where would anyone suggest i attempt /try to find/look for one? (besides feebay)?.

I would check Craigslist and look..Like you said Ebay..I will say if you use the Bonham name you will pay more for a set it would be better to just look for a set with the sizes14",16",18'' 24"..A 70's vistalite set in the Bonham sizes sell from 2,000+ on the U.S. because of the name...Mikey

If it were me, I would check into a brand new Amber Bonham-sized Vistalite kit. You'll probably pay less for it. But then again- it may cost as much as a vintage "Bonham" Vistalite kit because of the name association...

The stainless kit is going to be expensive anyhow (as they were the most expensive drums produced at that time and are rare), Bonham sizes will probably be even more expensive to procure.

Your least expensive bet is probably the thermo-gloss kit.

You could also try and build the Vistalite kit form orphans on ebay- you may get away with it slightly cheaper. The 26" kick will be the wild card, as it's a pretty rare size anyway. But you could buy drums with wonky shells and good hardware and build your own with new RCI shells. They would definitely be more roadworthy than some recent examples of vintage Vistas I have come across. It all depends on how patient you are and how much readies you have.

But all of this hype over Bonham kits (I mean price; don't want to touch off ANOTHER argument here), is going to mean that you're going to pay for whatever "Bonham" kit you buy.

Good luck.

Yeah- I'm THAT guy!!!
