During the past several weeks, I have been studying the techniques of Joe Morello, especially pertaining to his work with Dave Brubeck. I have come to a sobering conclusion. Although I consider myself a good rock drummer, compared to Mr. Morello, I should go back to kindergarten. He could do more with his left hand than I can with both of mine! Have any of you guys ever felt this way about drumming greats? Damn, he was good!!!

I remember going to clinics with Dave Weckle, Denice Chambers and many other great drummers and instead of coming away with some knowledgeable information, I came away feeling inferior. To the point of thinking, I should just quit because I'll never achieve their greatness.
Then I saw a video with Kenny Arnoff and he said something that has stuck with me for many years, as long as you have your passion you will be successful.
