I was doing a little research on "official" endorsers of American Drum Manufacturers and was quite surprised when I didn't see Joe Morello's name listed as an official Ludwig endorser. Is that my one good eye playing tricks on me again or did I simply miss his name listed among the others?
Joe Morello -- Official Ludwig Endorser?
Although you saw Ringo all over the old Ludwig Drummers, and always with a Ludwig logo on the kick, and in recent Ludwig ads, and in the Ludwig 100th Anniversary DVD, he is not an official endorser.
However, Joe Morello was in the Ludwig drummers as well, so he was certainly represented by Ludwig to the extent that Ringo was. Whether he was also not official, I don't know.
It is accepted that they are/were both Ludwig endorsers, so I guess that's the answer.

I guess both can be classified as "non-official official endorsers" then!DOH

Wow....you stray from DS? ;) Bummer you can't make the show this weekend.
BII wrote of the Morello/Ludwig endorsement and very close relationship. There's a great bit of storytelling by BII about the first time they crossed paths. He even questioned Joe's choice of Silver Sparkle, as that was a school/military wrap and really not intended for the Jazz drummer. He mentions that Joe was signed.
Joe Morello was an Official Ludwig Endorser from 1956-1988.

Ringo Starr was an Official Ludwig Endorser for one year, 1988.
THANKS for this information. May I ask where you obtained it? I couldn't find him listed as an "official" endorser anywhere which I found to be quite strange.
Joe Morello was one of my drum instructors, so I know alot of this stuff because I spent alot of time with him. But, there is a ton of information in "The Ludwig Book" by Rob Cook, check it out.
First, let me say how envious I am of you for having Mr. Morello as your drum instructor! I can't even imagine how great that must have been.
Secondly, thank you for the information regarding his endorser status. I did check my copy of "The Ludwig Book" as you suggested but simply missed seing his name. I blame this on my one functioning eye. I took another look and did find it on page 71.
I appreciate your help!

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
