I think that Jim Petty of JP2 Creations has died. I can't find an obituary--only a brief statement from someone connected with the Chicago drum show saying that Jim died on September 9 of this year. I have known Jim for many years, and hope that he really has not died. i will continue to look for information, and post any updates that I find.

He died of Covid recently.

What I find odd, is that there is no mention about this at his website. As mentioned above, information seems to be hard to come by. You would think that family members would be monitoring his mail. If checks are received, they should be sent back. Since that does not appear to be happening, I'd suggest putting a Stop Payment on this check through your bank.

'It was posted on a Rogers forum on FB. Also shared there by his daughter in law. Covid result sadly."

I've done business with Jim for a long time. Jim was a character! Fortunately, I got along well with him and we had quite a few lengthy telephone conversations!

Thanks for confirming the sad news----not that I wanted to learn the sad news. I first met Jim in the late 1970s at the music store that his father had started in Fort Worth, Texas. Jim took it over, He was sharp enough to know when the game was over. He went to work for a chain of twenty plus music stores in the state of Texas. That company was the major supplier and service provider to schools throughout the eastern two thirds of Texas. Jim had his own big workshop at their headquarters store in Dallas. He personally performed service on hundreds of school-owned and rental inventory of drums and drum-related items. He also oversaw the maintenance of drum inventory for the chain of stores. When CBS sold off the Rogers drum company, Jim unsuccessfully bid on buying it. Ultimately, after Island Music damn near killed the Rogers name with horrible import crap, Jim's employer bought the Rogers name and everything that came with it. They imported some decent Yamaha-made mid quality drums, and had plans for a top line at the time the music store chain went bankrupt. Jim and his employer had irreparable differences before the demise of the company. He started up his JP2 company in the converted

garage of his house in Bedford, Texas that was a complete repair and parts manufacturing one-man operation. I visited with Jim several times at his shop. He tweaked and repaired some of my older vintage drums. We were poles apart in politics. So, we didn't discuss that topic. He was certainly a very talented and unique guy.
