Jelly Bean Kit??

Loading...

What is considered a jelly bean kit?? is it a kit that looks like jelly beans or is it a set with every drum with a different wrap?? and does size matter with a jelly bean kit?? Was thinking of down sizing for a while and setting up 12 rack and 13-14 on the side. All the wraps are different, metalic blue-wood varnish-black with a wood varnished whitehall snare?

I think the first jelly bean kit was offered in a ludwig catalouge, and it was different colored Vistalites.I don't know if there are hard and fast rules, but generally it is a kit of different colors, and most people keep the finish in the family,IOW,a kit with all sparkle,or marine pearls,or metallics etc..I know when people put together a total mishmash of finishes they have called it a mongrel kit.You can have fun "theming" them, for instance all one brand, each a different brand, all american, all MIJ etc.I have seen more sparkle jelly bean kits than any other.

Yeah- this is a good description. I call my Premier kit a "mongrel" kit as it has so many different drums from different eras. I have had a bugger of a time finding an 18" floor tom and I am having someone make one for me!!! Talk about a mongrel kit....

My favourite jellybean kits are either vistalite jellybeans or any multi-colour sparkle kit, especially glass sparkle.

Yeah- I'm THAT guy!!!
