Jason Smay

Anyone heard of Jason Smay? He was with The Hi-Risers and Los Straightjackets to name a few. He's become one of my favorite drummers, very old school approach and of course he digs vintage gear.

Had not heard of him. Just took a look at a couple videos on youtube. Good stuff. My brain has been trying to figure out the feel/style of that period where country, country swing, jump swing, blues, swing, etc all collided and became rock and roll, but before the swing and shuffle straightened out and turned it into 'rock.' Watching this guy should help lots. Can't always figure out what the drummer is up to on those old mono recordings. Thanks for sharing. Good stuff.

Wanted: Pearl President floor tom in Golden Grain wrap and rack tom in Tiger Eye (root beer) wrap.

Jason is an amazing drummer and real nice guy . He currently is playing with JD McPherson since 2012 and his 15 year old son Mckinley James has an awesome band that he and the piano player from JD McPherson's band also play in .

Warning ... Avoid member statuscymbal here, vintage_collector on DFO , and americanpatriot10 on eBay. Email me for his name. All are the same shady guy who has burned me and a list of other members on both boards . He is also selling on Facebook too ..

Yup! I'll second, or third that (or whatever)

Jason is one of the greats...and a super nice guy.

In fact, you won't meet nicer people than they guys from the Hi Risers. One of my favorite live bands.

Great stuff. I like that he's only got the one cymbal and does the Krupa thing on the hats with the butt end of the stick. Loved it.
