It's GOT to be smooth, man, smooth..Pearl mufflers

Loading...

Pearl guys, I have two 70's era Pearl sets and after having the sets recently pulled from storage, I'm looking at them a WHOLE lot differently after being a member here.

I have given my Jupiter snare the VDF once-over and I still find my muffler knob feels like metal grinding on metal, same for the ones on my toms....You guys notice the same? Since I can't see any real close-ups on the catalog pages here, can you guys tell me if there are washers or some lube technique to get these knobs to turn smoother? The muffler knobs on the Slingy rehab I'm in the middle of turn really nice after cleanup and some Vaseline on the knob threads. Thanks ahead of time for your input.

hey Dean, I just checked my snare and it's not smooth either. The knob seems to be binding on the mounting screw below it. Another washer might remedy it (there's one there already). OTH, the tom mufflers are all very smooth, too smooth in fact. The FT one had wound its way right off from playing. I actually think a bit of binding might not be a bad thing. Less rattle and less likely to unwind while playing.

So, between the knob and the shell, there should be at least one washer? Yeah, I notice it too, that even if screwed on securely, the knobs seem to "lean" in on the bottom side and drag on the mounting screw....being all thumbs to most things mechanical, I wasn't sure what to do. If this is normal, I won't fix it if it ain't broke. d.

You'da man! Thank you. When I had it apart, I know there was no washer, so I didn't add one before putting the snare back together...I'll make the change and let you know what I find. d.
