Is this a supraphonic?

Looks like it to me, but again I'm a newb ( god I hate saying that!) If it is, what era, 70's? My older brother had a set of Black Rockers from the 70's and this looks like his snare. But we're not sure his is a Supra. Thanks for any help in advance...

Yes it is....but it's not a vintage one. -Probably from the 90's

Thanks for the quick reply... So would sound quality be similar to a vintage? Or do the newer Supras not equal the olders sonically? And if so, what should I expect to pay for something like this? I dont want to get ripped off. Wondering if I'd be better off with a 70's era acrolite instead of this.

I don't think the sound will be appreciably different because the shell and everything else are mostly the same. But I hate the way the drumhead has to slip over that big Monroe badge. That just looks like poor planning to me. I prefer vintage to new almost any day of the week because of little details like that. If I were you, I would just watch Ebay for awhile and get either a Supra or an Acrolite from the 70's or early 80's. An Acrolite is basically the same shell as a Supra but without the chrome...and also the Acrolite has 8 "bowtie" lugs as compared tthe Supra's ten "Imperial" lugs....everything else is exactly the same. So, if you wait and watch Ebay, you can get a much better drum, in my opinion.

I have an acrolite I was planning on posting on e-bay

Blue/Olive badge with the 2 sharp ends that was only around for a short time I believe.

Serial # 1556422 I believe it is about 78-79,very clean.

The only flaw is the "rubbery" type Ludwig logo is missing from the throw-off.

I am only selling because I found a great deal on a "66 Supra

Let me know if interested.

Man, a little too late. I just a grabbed B/O Acrolite on ebay for $95 bucks including shipping. Has the case and stand too. Looks like a late seventies like yours... Serial is 1534466. What are you asking for yours? I may know someone interested...

Heres the listing I won.

O-Lugs - Thanks so much for the help and sending me in what I feels the right direction. I can't wait to play this thing. I'll post pics when I get it and will surely be asking for some assistance nailing down the age.

Cool, man! Just get some decent, regular-style heads on it like Remo coated Ambassador batter and a clear Diplomat snare-side (or an Ambassador snare -side) head...You'll love it.

FYI: The Acrolite (also the Supra) is made with a seamless, spun shell with flanged edges and a center bead. In other words...there is no weld! The shell is completely uniform. The machinery that it takes to build a drum shell like these drums have is very complex. There are very few other drums in any price range that can boast of such a shell construction. Also, the Acrolite and the Supra are both drums with a rich history behind them -instantly recognized throughout the drum world. Each component of these drums is made by Ludwig -nothing about them is generic or imported (on the vintage ones, at least). They are readily available and the prices are still exceptionally low. It's a drum that you almost can't go wrong with! Enjoy it!
