Is this a good deal for vintage slingys?

Loading...

Hello vintage drum gurus,

I have found a '76 Slingerland kit for sale locally. I'm seeking knowledge to help determine the value of the kit. There are no extra holes in the shells (rims mounts were added later, but can be removed and the hardware will be remounted to the shells in their original holes). Comes with a COB snare and stand. Also comes with cases for all drums. The asking price is $650, is it worth it in your opinion? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Well it's sure got some stuff going for it... WMP is always a winner... the Super Set-o-Matic mount was supposed to be Slingerlands most versatile for positioning.... I think those are Slingerland 3 ply shells with rings..

I did a search on ebay (drum set 197*) to see what drum sets produced in the 1970's were going for... $650 seems in the "fair deal" ball park.

Sorry I just don't know that much about Slingerland drums of that era... I thought that I remembered reading someplace that Slingerland drums of the 70's era where actually some of the best they ever made.. but I could not find that article or post.

I'll keep digging... sorry 1976 will never feel vintage to me.. that would make me antique!

Not a Guru... just interested..

650.00 is a fair price with cases and all. I was never a fan of the Super set-o-matic mounts, they were just to overpowering. The only drawback for me would be the position of the bass drum tom mount, so close to the front of the drum. Those are pretty big toms also?

I'm pretty sure they are 3-ply w/re-rings. Sizes are 14 snare, 13, 14, 16 toms, 22 bass. I'm not really sure about the tom holder either, like you said lucky, they are too overpowering. I was thinkin of maybe using a snare stand instead of that huge set o matic configuration. I'd only use one tom anyway, i just like that setup better these days. I am most likely going to pick em tomorrow. Thanks guys for the information, and if any one else wants to chime in here, please feel free. I appreciate any/all comments

thanks again!

Time to confess....I paid WAY too much for a 1971 Slingerland Buddy Rich Kit with matching snare (mahogany finish and excellent shape). I put down $900 for it. Yes, I realize that I'm a dork and a dweeb, but doggone it, I wanted it. I'm covering it in gold sparkle and will LOVE it as the day is long. I had to pony up another chunk for the correct stands. So, $650 is REALLY looking good to me right about now. I usually make wise decisions concerning drums. I plead love struck. Enjoy your new kit.
