Found of Craiglist. Asking $80.00
Not convinced of autenticity. 8 Lugs indicates a Downbeat, the shell seems a 3 ply painted cray inside, but the tom holder hole is not a downbeat ( it should be the rail) and badge missing.
Any advice ?

Looks like Ludwig Rocker Spurs, lugs and T-rods look correct, cant really tell on the shell.
For $80, I would personally pick it up. Parts are worth more than that and for me it would be a fun project for a players drum.
True the parts alone may be worth the $80 he is asking. On the shell well if it was a downbeat it would have the overlap on the bottom. Also the original spur's hole are not in the right location, and it would have been a consolette type tom mount and not the one drilled for.
Rerings on the shell....3 ply if Ludwig?
Just to be technical, there is no such thing as a "Downbeat" bass drum. The "Downbeat" outfit came with a 20" Super Classic model bass drum with a rail mount on it. All the 20" bass drums were the same regardless of what outfit they came packaged with (or whatever sort of kit combination the buyer desired).
But that doesn't look like it was part of a "Downbeat" set since it doesn't have the rail mount or holes for one...although someone could have pointed to the Downbeat set in the catalog and said I want these sizes but I want a center post mount installed in place of the rail in case I want to add a 13" tom later on. Not sure what you'd call that but in either case the bass drum would be of the same construction.
Looks like a great project drum as Michael stated..$80 is a no-brainer...
Also, the gold sparkle wrap finish looks a little too "new" to be original, but does look nice..
It doesn't have that older, "gold coin-ish" hue to it..
I'm fairly new to vintage drums, and I could be TOTALLY wrong but...
If you blow up the picture of the interior of the shell you'll see that
there are unused holes in the center of the shell -- in between each batter and reso lug -- which to me indicates, possibly, that the drum was originally a single tension drum with a center support stud, or maybe a one point center lug drum?? It also looks like there's an extra hole or two near the newer spurs.
Those holes do not appear to go through the wrap, so I would think it is a re-wrap.
I agree that the original spur holes do not seem to be in the correct spot, nor does the badge grommet. If I had to guess I would say that this was originally a single tension, virgin drum, with clamp on spurs and tom holders.
But then again, I really don't know anything, just throwing it out there :)

You may be right, possibly a club date bass drum that someone redid as a classic and then rewrapped. The shell would still be the same construction either way. This is definitely worth the $80 as parts alone but it is pretty far from being in "unmolested" condition.
