Hi, I was recently given this Yamaha drum kit - I'm certain it's from the late 60's - either a D20 or D30. There's no info on the web about the difference between the two models or how to identify the year it was manufactured. I'm hoping it's a '67 - Yamaha's first year of drum manufacture. It's the same as pictured on their website (only black & red) http://au.yamaha.com/en/products/musical-instruments/drums/special/absoluteknowledge/history/
I've not seen the badge in the drum identification section of this site; is it earlier than the badges listed?
It still has the original front bass drum head (20") and original snare drum (14"), 13" tom and 16" floor tom.
I believe the wrap finish is called "red willow".
Were Ludgwig tom mounts standard on these kits? (this one has one). It had been moved to the top-centre of the bass drum - I've moved it back to the original position (leaving 2 holes exposed). It also looks like the bass drum legs had been swapped to the opposite side of the bass drum at some stage (?!) possibly to accommodate a left-handed drummer? (There are 2 x 1cm diameter holes on the underside of the bass drum on opposite side to legs)
