Is red oyster wrap a rare one?

Loading...

Hello again, I saw a Pearl Presidents kit at a store the other day. It had a red oyster wrap on it. It was good condition but to be honest I did not look them over to good. I remember thinking that they would clean up real nice. I dont even remember how many toms was with it. I am sure a bass, snare, floor tom and one mounted tom at least. I did not think I was interested until later on that day I started thinking about trading my copper sparkle kit for it.

My main question here is the red oyster a rare finish?? Should I trade? They have 180.00 0n the kit. Sorry I dont have pictures but here is a page from the VDG.with the wrap color.

Morning Jeffe! Yes, that is a very rare wrap color. As a matter of fact, I haven't seen one since about '83. 180 sounds like a deal, especially if they are proper Presidents. Go look them over and see what shells they are, should be glass or phenolic. I would snag them. I don't like the "bowling ball" era of oysters, but that is a rare one to find. Get some pix, or get us some drums!

Jeff,

I've only run into the red oyster 3 or 4 times in the last year or so, until recently when they seem to be showing up a little more regularly. One Pearl President tom (I think an 8x12) in that wrap just sold on eBay yesterday for $69.95 on eBay (plus shipping).

I've got a couple of Pearl President shells (8x12 and 9x13) in that wrap but hadn't decided to what to do with them yet. Mine are the maroon-colored "phenolic" shells, and the wrap is in fairly good shape (badges, too).

Here's what I would do -- if I found a set like this that would take little work on my part for $180 I wouldn't hesitate: I'd pick them up. I'd be able to move it & make good money sooner or later. As for trading what you've got, I guess I can't go there because I don't have the details on what you've got.

IF you're not interested in buying, I am... where are you located?

Thanks,

Bill

I don't usually make trips like that for just one set, so you're safe. :)

But, we love to make trips for "large lots." A great way for an old f*rt like me to see the country.

Find any of those, let me know.

Thanks and good luck,

Bill

I drive to DesMoins and Chicago for drums, they are both about 180 miles from here. My wife like to go along for the ride, usually take her to lunch and stop for ice cream. I am lucky she likes be a part of it.

Hi Jeff

Yeah, I'd get them for that price. Those President's are great drums! My wife only tags along if my 'hunting' includes the coast. Then we make a weekend out of it. Fun trips!

I used to think, for the drum business, I was in a bad location. We live in a small town in SEKs (less than 2500 pop.), but it was GREAT for raising 4 kids!

Anyway, I've been thinking it's pretty good for the drum business now, too. I'm less than 2 hours from Sprinfield, Mo. one direction, Tulsa, OK in another, and Wichita, KS in yet another. Topeka, KS and the KC area are less than 2 1/2 hours away, and even St. Louis and OKC aren't that bad of drives. I've been all of those places buying stuff (and many places in-between). Dallas/Ft. Worth is only about 6 hours away, but so far we've not been that far in that direction. Did make a 2-day trip with my oldest son to the Cincinnati area a little over a year ago. That was fun, but a little exhausting!

And, yes, my wife likes the trips, too!
