Blair, for number 3 Novus, you have to try it in small areas. It happened to me to, but I redid it, followed by 2, then 1 and it worked great. Also for me, I didn't read the instructions, the application is different for both polish, with the grain or against, I don't remember which.

Hi,
Rather than buy online and pay the usual list price etc, I went to a windshield repair shop. (Apple Glass in this case) and asked if they had any Novus I could buy.
They pulled out an 8 ounce bottle each of 1, 2 and 3. One bottle had been used (about 1/2 inch lower than the other two.)
$10.
Along with drums, I have since used it to polish out the paint someone left down the side of my car and also cleared up my headlamps a little.
I likes it.

I also have found that Novus 2 works great on wood painted BD hoops!
