Is it Rogers snare or its imitation?

From jonnistix

That strainer is a mid-late 60s Star strainer so it is not a Rogers strainer.

Well done Jonnistix!

So if it isn't American and it doesn't look like English Rogers to me then it could be from a stencil set, like this one .......

This is a "New Voice" drum that turned up a few months ago. Not mine but the photos were sent to me to try and help identify it, which I couldn't. There was a post on here about it at the time. I don't think that expert opinion could say who it was made by. George's drum might be the same or another stencil brand. Maybe Star made New Voice?????

Few more photos.

What i think on this snare. It's a M.I.J. if no extra holes are at the strainer...Jonnistix is right about the strainer M.I.J. late 1960..Also i have seen these lugs on about 30 or so M.I.J. drums some no names ..I would take off a lug and check the inside for numbers if no numbers then M.I.J. the screws would be a fat metric thread phillips head screw.....Mikey

Old Gretsch Blackhawk. A MIJ with imitation Rogers lugs. Fatter not quite right. But same profile.

Wow...the "New Voice" parts all look like Rogers to me, but the shells scream MIJ. The wrap looks like a German wrap. This kit is certainly a head scratcher. I don't think a man can get the variance of this kit, other than the vertical luaun grain. Nice kit, heavy duty gear, I don't know. Hope the owner likes them!

Sorry, Plough and I posted at the same time and I will bow to his experience!

The NEW VOICE was a total rip off on Rogers. And the Gretsch Blackhawks from .... heh, I dont know when, but I did buy a partial set once on ebay for cheap to check them out... had the same lug design. They were fatter and shaped slightly different from Rogers, but the copycat design of the beavertail lug was pretty plain to see. I think that snare might be one of those Blackhawk drums.

That 'New Voice' set looks like one of the super early Pearl stencils. The washers and the flat head screws on the interior of the tom are the tip off. I've seen that Rogers-esque hardware on a Tempest silver sparkle set, which was the earliest stencil/MIJ import I've ever seen up close. I'd probably date this set somewhere around the early-mid 60's, as I still haven't found any solid evidence that stencil drums were produced, or at least imported, before 1960.

I would be very interested to know if the inserts on the tom were metric or standard. If they took standard t-rods, I think that would lend credence to my theory that Pearl always used standard swivelnuts/rods, and that any drums with metric parts are Star made. (Again, this is just a theory I have right now. Need more info to prove one way or the other...)

That wrap, however, is a new one to me. Almost looks like cloth - looks very striking!
