Is Festival Shell Same as Krupa Shell? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

Sorry for the lack of title in last post, smart phone stuff.

Working on COB Festival and wondered if the shell is the same as the Krupa shell?

Are the strainer andbutt end holes the same for the Rapid andZoomatic pieces?

Thanks!

Hi,

Hmm, I think that the shells are basically the same, except that later on the Krupa shells remained COB and Festivals were changed to steel shells. Not sure about the holes being the same for the rapid and zoomatic...someone here will know though :). Good luck!

Thanks James and Vintage!

I was hoping to be able toto switch the just the shell initially. The lugsand hoops are verygood, but the shell not as good and won't clean up as well.

Now, I'll have to clean it up and see how it comes out.

Thanks.

Just started to clean up the Festival. Top hoop's chrome is nearly perfect after some polishing. But, I did try the magnet and it seems like the shell and hoops are steel not COB as I thought based on the 86xxx serial number.

I have a chrome Sling and the strainer has what looks like some type of a rawhide ring in it, about halfway up. Is that a Rapid strainer or some other type? The drum is incredible sounding but the strainer sometimes is finicky. It's in line for a complete teardown soon, just for periodic maintenance.

Cool, thanks. Is there any type of conditioner I could use on it or just leave it alone?

I'd like to add some over-looked information about the Festival vs Krupa shell. While both shell blanks, at the beginning, where COB, the Festival used a flanged-over bearing edge, while the Krupa used a really nice round-over edge. The flanged-over edge saved a few dollars on each shell. Also remember that the Krupa shell received the etched 3 lines sometime in 1965, while the Festival remained a smooth shell. Can anyone tell me if the early COB Festival shells also used the aluminum lug backing plates as the Krupa?

I did not see the backing plates on mine, but mine is early to mid '70's.

On the shell, when did the Festival move from COB to COS, as I can't seem to pinpoint the date...sometime after 1970 but before 1973. As I said earlier, tried a magnet and it seemed to stick, not a lot though. So, does a magnet stick at all to a brass shell?

Any help would be appreciated.
