Introduction and my BELOVED new maple kit!

Loading...

Forgot to post an update here, but I recently took my Jupiter snare apart to deep clean everything before putting new heads on top and bottom. It came out great!!! It now has a Remo Coated Ambassador on top, and a Remo Ambassador Hazy Snare Side on the bottom. Still using the original dual 10 strand wires. Here's a pic of the finished product. Sounds just as good as it looks too!

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Hi! Really nice drums you've got there!

I've not been on this forum for a couple of years and I think that's partly because I'm not buying/selling/upgrading as much as I used to! I know how you feel when you say you've found the right drums - I'm completely happy with my Premier Resonators and Genistas after owning many different sets. On the Pearl front, I bagged a vintage free-floating snare a while back and that's a lovely drum. I've since added a Pearl Crystal beat snare to the arsenal too. They are my most used snares at the moment, so Pearl and Premier are existing in harmony for me at least.

Anyway, enjoy and great to hear you're back playing!

Tama Superstar, 22, 22, 16, 14, 13 Desert Burst
Premier Genista, 22, 16, 13, 12 Black Lacquer
Premier Genista, 20, 14, 10 and snare Black Lacquer
Premier Resonator 22, 16, 14, 13 poly creme/black
Zickos 22, 16, 14, 13, clear acrylic and snare

Some advice,...

...Don't grab that part of the hoop with the stand. What you're doing is pressing the hoop and head ring into the shell, that effects the sound/tone. Grab the rise part of the hoop and tighten it snug, not too much.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Figured I'd continue the updates in this thread. I've been playing the hell out of this kit lately! A while back I was experimenting with different bass drum tunings, and broke a swivel nut on one of the batter side bass drum lugs. I didn't think it would be a big deal to get a replacement, but after some internet searching I found Pearl and a few other manufacturers use larger 6mm swivel nuts on their bass drum lugs. I also found that it's nearly impossible to find replacement swivel nuts these days that have both large 6mm thread, and are also designed for use with springs like most older drum lugs have.

After striking out on finding new replacements, I turned to the Facebook drum groups. I did end up finding a guy who sold me a vintage replacement from an old Pearl bass drum lug, and all was good for a few weeks... That is until I sat down to practice one afternoon and decided to change my bass drum tuning again... Went to loosen a T-rod and it just came right off in my hand lol.

After breaking 2 and knowing these swivel nuts are nearly 40 years old, and look like they've been cranked up WAY too high just one too many times, I started looking for a lot more than just a single replacement. It took quite a bit of searching, but I finally got lucky and found these 3 bags of 12 Gibraltar large 6mm swivel nuts on Reverb for under $20 shipped. While they're not exact copies of the original Pearl swivel nuts, they are the correct dimensions and threading, and they fit perfectly. I know it may not seem like a big deal to some, I'm really happy I found them as I just hate having to Jerry rig stuff on my drums. Drives my OCD nuts!
