The Camcos sound better to my ear.
FT on the Santa Monica has a t ur d in it.
(bottom head uneven or something) broken ply
wouldn't be caught dead in public with that floor tom.
reminds me of my 1st set 60s Ludwig 16 with the bottom head off.
hadn't heard that sound in ages. twan-urng.
up pitch.
wow the Comments are NOT kind (on youtube whew..
The resonance and sustain of the Camco is so pure and warm. It's almost as if the entire shell is sympathetically vibrating with the heads.
I wonder what Steve thought after heard the playback?
He'll probably re-do after reading Comments on Youtube.
same heads? then, Someone fouled up in the Tensioning Department.
I agree, the Camcos blew the dw's away. It just goes to show it's difficult to reproduce that vintage sound on a modern kit.
Gretsch does it Daily. (Ludwig Legacy too) Those santa Monicas were mistuned and that's an old Video I thought it was new.
Not that old June 2019 /nevermind)
There's a subtle difference, even with the newer Gretsch and Ludwig. I doubt Steve Maxwell went through all that effort to make a video highlighting two kits and not have both kits tuned correctly. I understand those Santa Monica's are very expensive, but jacking up the price doesn't improve the sound. I hear Mr. Good talking about how vintage drums are somehow inferior because the technology was not as good as today, but they obviously knew what they were doing.
That itty bitty Camco Ft sure sounds like big timpani. Wow. I enjoyed the Camco sound over the DW snare buzz.
He should have played some Metal. and, Some rim riffs too. I would have like to hear some hard hitting.
