once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

From Whatarethese123

Hey everyone. Picked up this 12" cymbal the other day and the underside of the bell is stamped LB and the number 12. Anyone got any idea as to what it could be/mean? The Zildjian stamp points to it being pretty dang old and it's still got a signature as well.Any information would be great!

what is this a splash , medium or heavy weight..

Right, that would go a long way to finding an answer or at least eliminating some possibilities. If it's a heavy then I think its pretty obvious that we can rule out Louise Belson.

On the other hand, this isn't the first time we've ever seen something like this either. It's not uncommon for marching bands or concert bands to sometimes use embossed characters in order to identify their cymbals.

Just a quick review:

Letter designations on Constantinople K's

Military unit designations. HF R1A, and HF R3B may indicate something like: "Her Majesty's Fusiliers Regiment 1A, and 3B".

He also thinks that cymbals can be dated by checking them for radioactivity:

if you're really motivated, you can have trans stamps tested to see if there's latent radioactivity present. If there isn't, it's pre-1945."

He must have gotten his PHD degree in particle physics at the "Daffy Duck Institute of Technology" where he did his PHD thesis on: new age theory on the "healing vibrational energies of crystals."

Then he declares:

"PEW PEW PEW - BOOM!!! SCORE ONE FOR THE FRANKSTER!"

...Self congratulatory much? How about adding a new word to your vocabulary Franky? It's called HUBRIS. You might want to look that one up.

Sounds more like he just "scored" some wacky weed and now he's trippin' on it. Anyway by his own admission he's in personal touch with the spirits, so maybe they had a hand in developing this new ground breaking theory.

Cymbal is pretty heavy, weighs roughly 950 grams.

From Whatarethese123

Cymbal is pretty heavy, weighs roughly 950 grams.

Not Loise Bellson then.

Then the "B" most likely stands for band, and the "L" stands for who knows what.

In Chicago there's Lane Tech and they have a large orchestral band.
