Info Required on Gigster Snare Drums

Loading...

Hi all,

I've been offered the chance to buy a fairly battered Gigster snare which is in OK condition. The top batter head is, well .........battered and split, the throw arm is missing as well as the badge. But everything else is all there. Its only £10 so even if I use it for the spare screws and calf skin its a steal, just wondered if anyone had a catalogue or pics.

Were they good quality back in the day?

Look forward to your replies.

Cheers

I'd never heard of these drums.

Found this:

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.vintagedrumyard.co.uk/stock/GI14x4GS1-1S.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.vintagedrumyard.co.uk/hslisting.asp%3Fmanuf%3DGigster&usg=__9UgAtKdGaQDkrkCghhTIQa1YpKQ=&h=77&w=103&sz=30&hl=en&start=3&tbnid=Qdo_3JET6xwFCM:&tbnh=62&tbnw=83&prev=/images%3Fq%3DGigster%2BSnare%2BDrum%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3DG

You need to click on the small pic of the drum on that page.

Does the drum look anything like that? I noticed the drum in the link doesn't appear to have reinforcing hoops, and I've always liked that design.

If the bottom head is a good slunkster I've seen them go for $80 on eBay and they don't come up all that often.

You might just have to take the £10 chance - walk on the wild side!

Hi,

Yeah, thats the only pic I could find and which helped me to identify the drum. I didnt realise vintage calf skins fetch that much money, I supposed most manufactures went to plastic heads in the 60s and surviving ones are lucky not to have been replaced or broken.

Thanks for the info, think I'll take the plunge and buy it. I'm in short supply of slotted lug bolts anyway!!

Cheers
