Info on this Pearl kit?

Loading...

Hey guys! new member here, I'm looking to buy a vintage kit for my home studio and I found an ad for a vintage Pearl kit, but I'm not sure if its a good buy. Anybody can give me some info on this model?

Is this more of a model for jazz? Not too sure about the smaller sizes and 6 lugs. I want to play classic/psych rock with it.

Is this an alright kit? Should i wait for a better one? Sorry for all my questions, I'm kind of a noob (I play keys mainly).

They're asking $275 for it, which includes a snare as well.

I forgot to mention, I'm in Mexico, and vintage drums are somewhat rare down here.

Thanks!

I'm Not an Expert, but I would definitely pass @ 275.00 .......lots of missing parts and whats with the tom bracket ?? If I found this kit I would offer about 50-75 bucks for it

I'd hold off......... for 275.00 you can do way better

I would definitely agree with mgtcnut on passing on this for $275. Personally, I MIGHT go as high as $125, as I do see some potential here. Still, as suggested, around $75 is a good offer considering the condition.

This is an earlier Pearl set...pre 68 at least.....desirable wrap....desirable sizes. Would like to know what the snare is. There are MIJ collectors that would really be interested in this set. I give it a little more love.

Thanks a lot for answering guys! I guess I kind knew it was not that great of a buy at this price, I might offer him less. Is the missing hardware hard to come by?

Just curious, what would be the best 60s kit I could aspire for at this price?

Thank you for your opinion, I'll ask him about the snare. How much would you give for this set? I do like the collectibility aspect of it, but I guess sound comes first. How's the sound on a kit like this vs other MIJs?

From what I see 275.00 is high on that kit.If the snare is decent or is matching and complete or 275.00 would be a good starting point because the wrap is desirable.

I had a pearl kit with the same badge,my 16 ft had 7 lugs, that looks like a 14 ft to me,I would make sure that rim laying on the ground fits the ft,and that the Bass Drum mounts and legs are present.

The good:

-Desirable (fairly rare) wrap

-Desirable Sizes (assuming it's 12"/14"/20")

-Center Mounted Lugs on all the drums (usually the center mounted lug kits didn't come with floor toms, so a lot of these kits have a double lug floor tom that was purchased aftermarket)

The Not So Good:

-Mismatched Bass Hoops-including one with no inlay (that inlay will be nearly impossible to find as no modern wrap manufacturers offer that wrap anymore)

-Mismatched Tension Rods on the bass drum

-Missing parts for the floor tom

-Possible wonky tom arm

Depending on the snare, that will change the value of this kit. If it's a matching wrap wood snare, the value will increase. If it's a non-matching snare, the value decreases sharply, as again, finding a matching wrap snare will be very difficult.

Assuming all the parts are present and functional (bass drum spurs, floor tom legs, tension rods, hoops, tom arm etc.) I would say $200-$250 with the matching snare and $125-$150 without the matching snare. Again, this is a desirable wrap and looks like the desirable 12/14/20 sizes. Plus, center mounted lugs on the floor tom makes it even rarer. That's why I would go a bit higher than some others.

Good luck!
