Info on George Way snare Last viewed: 1 day ago

This is a pretty cool snare that I would like to know a little more about.

It's a George Way 15" x 8" with re-rings and what looks to be all original hardware except missing wires. It has a Elkhart Indiana badge and fairly deep snare beds. There are no extra holes for straps or mounts of any kind. Anyone have any info or know if it belonged to a set of some type?

Thanks!

If that drum is yours, it'll be one of the best sounding snare drums in your arsenal. If you're considering buying it, go for it! I have been playing my Geo. Way kit and I am in deep monkey-love with the snare. (5"x14" same lugs, tall hoops, strainer and butt plate as yours.)

If Steve (Dolfan) sees this, he'll give you more detailed info about the drum, in the meantime snag it if you can. You're really going to dig that drum! I'm not sure what the model's name was, but it's a 'concert' snare for sure.

Here's a shot of my Geo. Way snare:

Beautiful snare John. I own this one. It's one of many snares that I purchased last weekend. I'm still deciding which ones to keep and to sell and this one seemed special. I apprecciate your reply.

Thanks!

Randy,

I did some research based off of the one you sold me. This snare was called the "Aristocrat Band Model". The strange thing in the snare I have is that there appears to be no extra holes yet the butt plate and strainer do not appear to be correct.

In my case I will make a nice "players" drum and throw on this strainer:

This would have been correct on several models and close enough to work for me.

Very cool! Those are hard to come by. I passed on a gold sparkle one a number of years ago at the Chicago Drum Show. I haven't seen one since and still kick myself for not grabbing it!

Be careful with that strainer as it's one of the weakest of the 5 GW strainers. That one is nearly impossible to fix once it breaks.
