I recently picked up an antique wooden snare drum manufactured by
J.W. York & Sons, "House of York", in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Some years ago I picked up a bass drum manufactured by the same company that came with its original calfskin heads and interior lighting installed on the shell. Both drums have the company's label affixed to their respective inner shells and the label itself is a true "work of art." Unfortunately, I can't get a clear pic of the label to post.
Anyway........from the research I've done, this company existed sometime between the late 1800s and early 1900s. I'm trying to find out as much as I can regarding this particular snare drum so that I can catalog it as completely and accurately as possible.
Any information that you "experts" out there might be able to provide would be GREATLY appreciated.
THANKS in advance for your time and your help!
