Individual Snare wires

Is there anything I can use to clean snare wires. I don't know if it is oxidation or what.

There is a member on here, jcymbal, who has done some amazing restoration jobs and posted them. I've been scouring through some of his old threads (worth a look or 12; check them out!) and he uses vinegar baths for a lot of the metal parts and gets amazing results. I'm not positive, but I think he just leaves them overnight.
