Increase your wingnut size! Funny little wingnut project

Loading...

i have a vintage Rogers hi hat stand that has a bracket that I assume had a stripped hole drilled out and tapped for a bigger bolt. The original part is a wingnut and was replaced by a big ugly bolt.

I have an extra original rogers wingnut and decided to increase its diameter and thread size so it fits the enlarged hole.

Increase the diameter and thread size?? you ask?

Yep.

Just getting started. First turn it down make it smaller to make it bigger:

Chucked in the lathe:

Starting to turn it down

I like where this is going! Lucky man to have your own lathe too! I miss my old Rogers hi hat clutch too. Can't wait to see more.............

Okay, now I assume you have to attach a larger steel sleeve over the lathed-down nub and rethread? More pictures please! This is getting interesting.

And could one do this without a lathe? Bench grinder perhaps?
