Importation of Drums from England

Loading...

If anyone has recently imported a snare drum from England and can advise what the customs costs were, I will appreciate knowing.

Thanks in advance!

Good question - I wish it was reasonably inexpensive. I'd have some vintage Premier kits from England in my collection by now, I'm sure..

I'm interested in this too. I found this website that calculates import duty and taxes.

http://www.dutycalculator.com

It says the following after I entered some information:

Calculation notes

Notes on duty & taxes rates

Musical Instrument has an import duty rate of 5.3% .
Notes on import taxes due

Duty due is nil because the total value of the products does not exceed US$200.00

In rare cases, state sales tax may be collected in addition to import duty & taxes

Please note that your shipping provider may add an additional handling fee
I always underline USED twice when I ship something out of the country...

Yes, shipping alone probably in the area of $150 to properly insure it. But getting concerned that adding price of drum to shipping and then customs that are hard to estimate could lead to paying more than is practical. Trying to work it out.

Thanks for the info from the calculator. I live in MA and we love sales tax too.

25 years ago,I shipped all sorts of stuff from my trip to England back, and don't recall paying a penny in duties..

Generally speaking, you'd think that the rates between England and US would be low because of the overall cooperation and little to worry about with trade imbalance and so forth.

But thanks for the hint on writing used twice. That is probably very useful.
