I think you can special order heads from Remo. I may be wrong. I think I heard that you could awhile back, though.

That's EASILY one of the coolest snare drums I've ever seen. It's like a version of a Leedy Broadway....but not.

I think the shell is beech wood and the re-rings are maple.

You can buy new heads at STdrums in germany, A great (web)shop and they have many non-international drumheads.

The Remo custom sized heads thang...it may be true in theory...but oh, man..I have even had guys who are approved Remo dealers tell me that trying to communicate with that company to special-order is like trying to...well, I dunno what....

But that IS a weird size, it may take you a bit of looking to find someone who can supply those....[/COLOR]

Beech wood is darker than maple and it darkens even more with age.

I am perplexed as to what the wood is on that drum! It might be beech. It might not. It for sure, isn't luan or mahogany.

It's a 3-ply shell of unknown composition. The center ply is lighter in color than the inner and outer veneers. And the inner and outer grain alignment is vertical. VERY unusual! I am completely unfamiliar with this shell composition.

I own an imperial drum set, like this one. Snare is exactly the same than the one showed on the pictures, and its diameter is 14.5" (or 14 1/2 ").

Does anyone know if "blonkins" found the heads?

Can anyone advise me about how/where to find new heads for this unusual-size snare?
