My adapters are 6-ply birch, made from an out-of-round 14" shell I happened to have laying around. A little sawing and drilling, a little stain, some Polycrylic finish, and voilá!
Glad you found wires that work for you. I just figured I'd mention wires since today's "standard" 20-strand wires just would not work on my '50s RK and I wanted to make sure you weren't fighting the same tuning battle!
