Hi,
I picked up a Yamaha Nippon Gakki Bass Drum Foot Pedal. Trying to figure out a name and year.
Are these worth anything since they have parts that need to be re-chromes (and the felt drum beater needs to be replaced) ?
Thanks. (My first post)

early 70's I think.
Same pedal for my old (D-20) kit...
Not quite sure "in surgery" means.
Would it take a lot to repair it?
Thanks so much.
I have another thread going on the restoration of the old D-20 kit I picked up about a month ago. http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=33771
I have the 12 done (removed the original plate mount and put it on a modern RIMS mount) and the metal for the 14 floor tom is also done. I need to buff the wrap on the 14 and then assemble it (then it will be done). A bit of work on the original bass hoop and a slightly incorrect donor hoop is needed for the bass. Metal for the bass needs to be polished, and some slightly incorrect claws need to be corrected.
I was looking for a 20-12-14 kit for a little while, and came across these. Being a Yamaha aficionado, I thought they'd be a good chance. It is amazing that the shells are so similar to my recording customs- all birch and the same angled, staggered seam construction of the shells. They called it "air bag" shells back then, now called "air seal" construction- same thing. These are quite literally the grandfather of my RC kit!
Oh, and that 12" tom sounds amazing- it really sings! I was afraid it might not since the heads fit with such a sharp breakover on the outside of the drum (but not as tight as some Gretch shells).
I saw a similar bass pedal recently (broken) for $10.00. There is not much demand, but the few crazy people (like me) might be interested in it. if you want a collectible pedal, something like the Ludwig Speed King is a winner, as are a few others from the old American makers (Slingerland, Rogers etc.)
