Identifying older Slingerland set

Loading...

I've had this set of Slingerlands for about 20 years, and I bought them off a person who I'm pretty sure told me she bought them new in the mid to late 1970s. The strange thing is that the serial numbers seem to only have 5 digits.

I'm thinking of selling this whole thing - it's all Slingerland hardware with Zildjian cymbals/hi hat, stool, and some low-quality fibre cases. Any idea of value?

Looks like a 50N from around 1973.

Set could have been one of those unsold sets till late 70's.

Looks very complete.

Value?

$750.00-1100.00

Hi bignickel!

I would estimate they are from the early to mid 1970s. The serial numbers reset around 1970-ish, so your badges have numbers right before they hit 100,000 again, and seeing as they are the black/silver niles badges, definitely 1970s.

As far as value, Slingerlands don't currently fetch as much as comparable Ludwigs for some reason. They are just as good sounding and playing. Seeing as you have a complete original set with hardware and cymbals, and a nice looking brass sound king snare, I would estimate you could get $1200 on the low side to $1700 on the high side - maybe more to the right buyer.

Does that sound right or fair to the other Slingerland guys here? Just want to make sure my estimates aren't off value.

Very nice kit!!!

The complete set with all Slingerland hardware, fiber cases, and good Zildjian cymbals (not the lower line stuff) should bring in at least $1200. Some here might suggest selling the drums with cases for $800-$1000, the hardware pieces and hardware case individualy for $250-$400, and the cymbals individually for $300-400. That would net you $1400 to $1800.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Something not quite right .. those BD spurs and their placement are not #727 from the 70's...

Cheers

John

IMO...600 for the drums, and take whatever is reasonable for the rest. There are hundreds of sellers that cant sell right now because of the obvious situation. If you can hold on to them, do it, things could change, but don't hold your breath. Its not that things are terribly over priced, well that's some of it, but we are at war and that always slows things down.

Hit like you mean it!!

what is the finish, black pearl? The toms are not as glossy as the bass drum...that and the spurs seems to point to it being altered or rewrapped.

As it is, with the snare and all the hardware you have, I think 600 (less cymbals) would be giving them away.

I would like to see another picture of the spurs.

Also the black around the badge looks like someone took steel wool to the finish.

Yes, I reckon the BD is a "Ring In"...
