Problems uploading but finally got it.. :?
Identify this Star kit pls..
Saw this little guy up for sale and was wondering if they're really Star drums as the seller says..I can't see badges..Snare drum is Coronet according to the seller..Pics are crummy, but i think any Star aficionado will be able to tell.. Any thoughts and help is appreciated
Also, sizes look to be 20-13-16, but can't really tell..
Hello, human71,
From what I have learned, Coronets were stencils of Pearl. My eyes are failing though because each day I become more and more decrepit. The claws on the bass and t-rods look identical to my Supreme stencils which were made by Star. Like you wisely pointed out in another thread, we are both becoming "vintage". I wish I could help more but, my nurse will soon be arriving with my meds. Damn! What day is it?

Lol ! Thanks, Salty.. I knew that Coronets are Pearl stencils and some of those kits are really well made and sound great, because of the phenolic shells they're sometime made up of.. I too look at T-rods to sometimes to identify these MIJ kits.. The reason i was asking was because the seller was asking $350 for everything you see in the pics, and i found out on this very forum that some precursor Tama "Star" kits were well made and are good quality, which can sometimes cost a little more than your average MIJ kits, and i just wanted to know if it was a good deal.. Thanks for your help, and the laugh ;).. We may be getting older, but with that comes wisdom ;)
for 350...id buy that kit. looks like a very fine kit. and its all there...bottem hoops too.

Hello human71.
I am sort of Antique myself and my eyesight is only so so
But to me the kit looks like it may be Hoshino made based on the lugs
and rail style
And not the Hoshino associated with Star
but the other entirely separate and somewhat lessor known Hoshino
some of their badged names were Vibra, Decca, Kimberly, Crown ,Olympian, Dorado, Matador and Marquis
Think Kenwood has it right. I'd go take a look see. A little work and not a thing wrong with those.
Good luck!

Another indication for it: Have a look at the rhombic shape of the bracket at the rack tom shell: this type was never in use at Star's.
Cheers, Ralf
NB: good recovery, Brian ;)

If anyone knows more about Star drums than Ralf, he or she is not a member of this forum. Ralf is a fantastic source of knowledge. In addition, Ralf is a great guy! Never negative. Always helpful.

Here is another one that popped up.. Looks to be original Star, because the badge looks like it, even though the pic is a little blurry..
Really nice kit, in what looks to be Blue Oyster Pearl.. Check out that snare drum.. Offset lugs ?.. Comes with Ludwig speed king pedal and hi hat stand, but no cymbals.. If i wasn't going on vacation, i'd probably get on this one.. Looks decent and for a decent price..
What do you guys think ? Ralf , i'm looking at you ;):)
