Identify this Slingerland

Loading...

I just purchased this old Slingerland from a thrift shop.

It was described as a 1960s snare, but I believe it to be from the mid-50's.

It has 8 lugs, with chrome (over brass maybe?) counter hoops and claws rather than modern holed rims.

You can probably get a lot more info from the attatched photos.

Can anyone tell me what model this is? (any info at all would be appreciated)

What you have is called a Student Model Snare Drum. Mohogany finish 7" x 14" with a Rapid Strainer. It is in excellent condition and a very nice example of that snare.

The hoops are COS single flange with rim clips and I always liked that look on snare drums.

I'm thinking late 50's or early 60's, but the Slingerland experts could possibly pin that down closer

The 55' catalog does have a rapid strainer on the student model snare drum, but it is not this version.

As far as exact years and when or if things were named is way out of my expertise and there are people who can probably answer the specifics better.

This is a very nice drum!
