I recently purchased a used Premier Drum kit from a friend. It has some unique characteristics but I have been unable to pin down exactly what type of Premier Kit it may be. I know that it was most likely made in the late 90's. It has gold tension casings as well as raised emblem badges with gold trim. The drum sizes are 10", 12" and 14" mounted toms. 22" bass with matching wood 14' snare. It also as a matching special 10"x5.5" mountable snare. All the drums have the same dark woodgrain finish and have different wood plies in the shells. Although most of the info I have read about the 90's era drums says they were birch and eucalyptus the inside of the shell grain looks alot like maple. There is nothing unique about the hardware except the tom mount has a hidden cymbal stand that telescopes out or it. There are no serial numbers or other markings on any of the shells or hardware. I thought origin would be easy to track down to the unique gold casings and the small snare drum but have not found them in any of the uploaded catalogs. any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
Identify Premier Drum Set
Since posting the initial thread I have continued to search the internet for answers. I have found a couple of old ads where people were trying to sell a "Premier XPK Limited Edition Kit 75th Anniversary" kit that has the same configuration as my kit with the gold lug casings. I assume this also means the shells are birch/eucalyptus/birch plies although it really looks like maple. I still haven't been able to find anything about the small 10"x5.5" snare drum. I would really like to find out a definitive answer. If it is a special edition kit that would certainly help the resale value?

I'm with OddBall on this one.....XPK series. They were a nice looking and sounding affordable drum when they were new.
It looks too light to be Maple, so I`m gonna guess sapwood Birch, heartwood Birch, sapwood Birch sandwich.

White Birch will have a darker heartwood from the same tree, you get two colors when making plywood.

Thanks for the info. I had seen those same threads also and they were the closest match to my kit. When I got them they were muffled down like cardboard boxes and still have the original heads that are worn out. Can't wait to get them tuned up and hear how they sound. Thanks!
