any idea on year/model?

This is a kit from the mid 1970's to maybe 1980. The wrap is called Butcher Block.

I just purchased a 1981 or 82 vintage Ludwig kit with a Natural Maple finish (#700) in the catalog from that era. It's a 7 piece kit with a 22 x 16 kick, 10", 12", 13", 14" deep toms, a 16" x 16" floor tom and a 1979/80 Ludwig Chrome Supra Phonic 6" x 14" snare. The kit also came with a Ludwig Hercules snare stand, cymbal boom stand and stool. I already had a set of Ludwig Hercules hardware that I bought new back in 1979, so now I have a complete kit. Took them apart, cleaned them up and tuned them up...wow they sound great!!! I believe that they are 4 ply maple shells, and have bottom heads on all of the toms. The kit came with two tom stands with factory triangular mounts for the tom arms. The kick is clean with no mounts, and two sets of legs. It's a nice set-up and I will try to post some pics when I get some. I would like to know what model my kit is, if anyone knows?

Good luck with your kit!

Yep, 1970's Ludwig Butcher Block CORTEX!!

The reason I make sure to say CORTEX is that stuff isn't your run of the mill plastic wrap. It was actually COUNTER TOP material, and though there might be other colors that would float your boat, you'll be hard pressed to find a more durable finish.

The Cortex wraps wear like IRON, they'll look good probably LONG after we're gone!!!

I've got a kit in Black Cortex, and it really is a great kit!! Mine is 6 ply all maple shells with NO re-rings. Sings wonderfully!!!

Congrats on the nice kit!!!!

^^^agree^^^ I , too, have a Cortex wrap (black) on my Rogers Big R drums from 1975. The Cortex wrap is the most durable wrap ever. The colors were sometimes locked into the era they came from. You don't see much butcher's block laminate counter tops anymore, either! ;). But that was cool in it's time, so it's a cool way of re-representing that time, nowadays.

Speaking of Cortex, I have always liked black drums, but the Cortex black was a richer black -somewhere between satin and gloss. The newer plastic wraps are glossy black like patent leather shoes and they don't have the same appearance. The Cortex looked more like a vintage Steinway piano kind of black.
