Ideal Snare

I think I'll clean this during the storm and hope that the power lasts. I found it in a case in my basement a few months ago and didn't know that I had it. I knew I had the case. I just hadn't looked in it in 20 years. It's in very nice shape and should clean up nicely.

Nice little Star built snare. My money says it is a 3 ply and the edges are a little rough. Tear it down and GENTLY sand them smooth with some 150 grit paper, tune to about medium and it should sing out in a nice, woody but sweet tone. I usually lacquer the interiors of the 3s. I do not use poly because it gives them a "plastic" sound. Good luck with the storm!

All done and it cleaned up nicely. Edges were in exceptional condition. I was surprised there were edges at all! No snare beds though. I tried to leave as many factory splinters as I could but I lost a few. If this shell is 3 ply they're paper thin and feels like balsa. (not really.... but close) I didn't bother doing anything to the inside. I tend to leave the inside alone if there's nothing nasty in there. It's a good place to leave some natural age. Anyone know what the "K" stamp is on the inside?

Nice drum! Nice job! If you ever find any lugs like he ones pictured, please let me know. Sorry I don't know what the stamp is.

Nice looking snare! I just got a no-badge red sparkle stencil on Ebay that I need to get cleaned up. It will sit on the shelf next to another red sparkle Lido and a blue sparkle Whitehall. My sparkle shelf!
