Could it be a vintage Premier snare ?

The Premier hoops are definitely not original to the drum! If the strainer is original, then it appears to be a Ludwig, WFL, Ludwig & Ludwig, etc. Maybe one of our more knowledgeable collectors out there will chime in!

What does the engraving say?

As others have pointed out, this drum appears to be a mixed breed . It probably performs well despite being a mutt.

The engraving states : #15 Carroll Music

Could indicate a few things, a music shop that rents instruments is foremost in my thinking. Perhaps even a recording studio to catalog particular drums according to their sound and usage. I did find a music studio/rentals by that name in New York City. I am thinking the rims were changed for improved performance and sound.

I will be selling it but I would like to have more information to properly represent the drum. So far I've seen resemblance to Ludwig, but some characteristics or even parts were common or universal in design or look AND the notorious parts swopping. And the responses lean towards Premier and Ludwig variation.

I have to take the head off again and get pictures of the interior. The shell appeared to be two piece construction with the seam at the center rib. The edge bead (bearing edge) construction of the metal is different than I have seen before too. The metal shells I've owned (Rogers & Ludwig) the metal is simply rolled into shape with the bend towards the interior to form a open trough around the perimeter. This drum the "trough" has an extra bend to close off the trough to create something like a triangular hollow tube along its circumference Another way to describe it would be that if the drum were placed outside without heads, rain would collect in the "trough" with the open trough design, but the extra bend/hollow tube design would not collect water.

Thanking everyone for your input I've received. I now have a new discovery about this snare............

I just pulled the snare out to take more pictures and I finally noticed a very faint etching on the drum reading 'Ludwig' with Trade Mark incorporated in the lower loops of the letters 'L' & 'g'. So now the shell is ID'd and your responses I have received indicate the rims to be Premier.

Now I'd like to find out its age.

Anyone have suggestions?

Looks to be a 1920's - 30's Ludwig Super.

Hoops are not original should be single flanged I believe.

I found another snare similar to mine on ebay eBay item number:324553948416

It has the same Ludwig etched name as mine and shell.
