Appears to be a basic, early 70s Pearl stencil. Six/nine, (?) ply luan, with 'battleship' lugs. Not the most desirable, but should sound pretty good with some work, (and some heads :D). Interesting looking wrap. I'd buy that for a dollar.

That looks exactly like my Dixie, a Pearl made Stencil from 70-72. Those are called "Battleship" lugs. These, like most MIJs, can sound GREAT The edges need to be perfect (flat even, etc.) and sanded nicely (not rounded, but in nice shape). Then I tune to the shell and use studio rings.

I would not shy away from these at all.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

I ended up winning the auction at 43 bucks which is a great price in Australia. Im gonna re-cover them in blue sparkle. That floor tom looks like it could be 14 inch which ive heard is a rare size for a floor tom. I guess Ill be able to find out when I pick it up. Finished product photos to come

Hey Wado; congrats on scoring the kit. If the original wrap is in salvageable shape, I'd consider leaving it as-is. From a vintage collector standpoint, it's always preferable to be original. Looks like a cool, and unusual finish. Lots of great tips here for cleaning and polishing, but it is your kit, so obviously you can do what you like. Have you had a look at the actual article yet? Maybe some pics for the forum to get opinions before you remove original wrap, (you wouldn't want to end up kicking yourself in the end). Besides, a proper re-wrap will cost you more than the kit. Just my opinion.

What he said... it looks like you may be missing some lugs. Hopefully, they are in the parts bucket pictured. If not, folks here on the forum will be able to help you with whatever is missing.

Very cool score! With the right heads and a good restoration, you'll have a sweet kit!

According to the guy i bought it off, the strange coloured wrap was added later but ill have a look regardless. Also I already have the blue wrap i was gonna use because I know a signwriter who I get it very cheap from. Once I pick it up Ill give the kit a good going over and get back to you guys if i encounter anything

Okay, if it's the thin vinyl adhesive stuff, just be cautious. If you haven't tried it already, it's not very durable, and tends to pull, and bulge when you re-attach the lugs and fittings. Probably better to apply over existing wrap, but may also leave a nasty, sparkly residue when removed...

I'm no Peal expert, but couldn't this be a Pearl 'President' kit?

Ralf

NB: rack tom is mounted to the wrong direction: if mounted this way, the pedal beats to the reso head - and it would be difficult to add a cymbal arm, too ;)
