ID the year/model of my Premier kit

Loading...

Best I can tell from the varied sources available, these are circa 1972. I'm also guessing this might be part of a bigger (double-bass?) kit, as there's no tom mount on the BD, only the cymbal mount on the right side. I have a matching flat-base double tom stand that came with them, but only one mounted tom. Sizes are 24-13-16 and a 5x14 aluminum model 2000 snare. They have SNs, and all parts appear original. I've learned that 24" Premiers are a bit rare? Any help out there? Thanks.

I have the correct cymbal arm if you are interested...

Yes,was probably a 505 (Superstar) outfit..broken into 2 kits...

They did offer the 505 with 24" BD too....most were 22"....

Hi Blair. Let me think about the cymbal arm and dig for mine.

I went and dug thru the online catalog stuff again and can't really find what I have... Best I can tell, it must be the 1973 catalog D707, as that's the first year I see a 24" offered. Correct me if I'm wrong. Also, the "Silver Sparkle" shown in that pic looks suspiciously golden (like the faded-gold appearance of my drums...) and I don't recall there being much difference in color under the lugs. Premier evidently never offered a Gold sparkle, only later on for Olympics. Next weirdness is the mount on the 9x13 tom: Mine has the old-style round mount on it, not the disappearing arm type, and it has the mount to the right of the badge, like it would've been mounted to the (players-view) right. That would make sense with a 12" tom on the left, but the D707 has 13" on the left and an 8x14" on the right. Yes, Premier had a 9x13, then an 8x14 for several years until the 10x14 came out. Oh, and the 707 set in the catalog had the toms mounted on the BDs, not on a double tom stand like I got with mine. So, what the heck does it all mean? Maybe nothing. Maybe you could order whatever you wanted?

Yes,you could order whatever you wanted...they stated that in several catalogs I have...

The 8 by 14 came out before the 9 by 13

They show a 8 by 14 in the 1968 catalog....

I do not have the 1965 one though, but do not think it is in there...

PS,,can you show a close up of the mount on the 13"...and also one of the double tom stand?Thanks....

Those drums are at my band's practice space, so I won't see them again until Wednesday. Pretty sure that's where the stand is. However, here's a pic of the cymbal holder I have and the mount on an Olympic I have that's the same as the one on the sparkle 13" tom.

It took awhile, but I finally got a couple pics of the double tom-stand. The wingnut for height adjustment has been replaced. I also double checked to make sure that the top part doesn't fit in the cymbal- bracket on the bass drum: it's pretty floppy in there- not a good fit. Let me know if you'd like to see anything else.
