I would like some feedback

The shell damage potential is quite high, one of the reasons why I wouldn't re-wrap.

Isn't it nice that you can talk to the people working on your stuff?!?!? Between the internet, cheap phones, etc., etc., we're living in particularly good times, I think.

Remember this as well: there is a reason why some guitars are finished in opaque colours (for the most part) and drums are wrapped: you probably wouldn't like to see what the wood looked like without an opaque finish!!! Think about that, as well...

From RogerSling

Sell the kit and buy what you want. Don't damage it / change it / improve it any more. These drums aren't being made any more. Respect.

Gary,

I was in a similar situation with my 60's Round Badge a while back, and my original wrap was fairly thrashed (paint over satin flame is not a pretty combo). I re-wrapped in a beautiful White Marine Pearl and left all of the original hardware. I came away with a great looking and fantastic sounding that I use often but I have to tell you...I still kind of regret having removed the original vintage-ness of these drums. I doubt I could have sold mine for much in their damaged condition so monetarily, our situations are different. But since your finish is in good shape, you might be able to sell your Gretsch kit for good money and then get exactly what you want. Just one guy's experience that once you re-wrap you can't go back.

That kit must have been a hot mess before you re-wrapped!!! Those are the occasions I say re-wraps are warranted.

GWM, you had no choice. They came out great and the WMP is a classic vintage wrap.
