Ok, I came back from the drum room somewhat frustrated. I want to play better, but unfortunately I don't have a lot of time to practice, ya know because of having a life with other responsibilities. I was watching a video of Cindy Blackman, from Lenny Kravitz and now Santana, anyway, she's a big Tony Williams fan and sometimes uses several toms with clear dots, I got inspired to change things up and I knew I had some clear dots, so I replaced all the heads and set up the 12,13,16,22 and placed the cymbals similar to how she sets up. Now, I'm not a moron, I knew I couldn't just set up differently and automatically play like her or Tony, I just wanted to try something new. I want to play better and I can pull off some cool licks, but damn, I get so tired and my hands and feet won't do everything my brain is thinking! I play in a cover band and I can play that stuff all night, but I want to be better at soloing on my own, not to try to be better than the next guy, just for my own satisfaction. But, getting older and not having the time to practice sucks. I work out on my spin bike 4-5 times a week and try to eat right, (Although sometimes I fail at that too) and it definitely helps, but I still get tired and I get frustrated.
I don't care about having a lot of gear or the best gear, I just want to play better.
