I picked up some Premiers-Trying to date them?

Loading...

Hey Gang,

I picked up a set of White Marine Pearl Premiers, and I'm trying to correctly Date them and fiqure out which series they are.

I have been through the Catalogs here on the Forum ( Great Source Thanks!!) but i'm still not exactly sure what year and series.....It seems they are 70-72 possibly according to the Badge,Straight Kick drum legs, & Tom mount, but how do you determine the series ??

Also, What year/series would the Slingerland Snare be that came with it??

I've just got them, gave them a quick tune and played them last night for a while....They sound great !! I believe these are keepers !!

Thanks

Earl

nice. what are the sizes? It looks like either a B202 or a B101/111 depending on the sizes. 101/111 is 20/12/14 (B101 has a 22" bass) and the 202 is 20/12 or 13/16 (B202 has 22" Bass). The hanging tom looks like it might be a 14" though? What wood are the shells made of? They will be either birch or mahogany (darker wood). Mahogany would put them in the early 70s. It is possible that the shells might be a mixture of some birch and some mahogany so need to check them all

The Slingerland snare is from the 60s. Possibly a Hollywood Ace but more photos needed.

There were no series back then, simply Premier drums. - the various model descriptions purely refer to the sizes in a particular configuration.

As Andrew said look if its birch or African Mahogany, my bet is Mahogany with the 5 digit serial numbers on the badges

Good luck getting an exact year/date, but I'd say earlier 70's, based on tom mount, hardware, etc. Like others have said, knowing the wood type helps as well.

Enjoy!

Edit: Just noticed you have a close up picture of a serial number (which are generally useless on Premier kits, for dating). One of the knowledgeable people from a Premier Facebook group mentioned that 5 digit serial numbers would place it closer to mid 70's...4 digits closer to early 70's. Not sure if that's 100% true or not. I highly recommend posting this question/pictures on this Premier FG group's page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremierDrumsandPercussion/?ref=bookmarks

LOTS of experts on there, including ex Premier employees.

Cool. So you have a B111 http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/premier_drumsets/1973-premier-catalog-8.jpg

Nice to have the 14" floor tom as they are definitely not so common compared to the 16"
