I made a deal

Loading...

I had posted a want ad on the local craigslist and a guy emailed me a number of a friend of his who was selling a vintage Ludwig set. I finally got up there today and put a deposit on it. I only took a $100 with me because you never know and I wanted to make sure it was the real deal. It is a pre serial number 60-63 Silver Sparkle (yellowed a bit) down beat? 20" kick missing the front hoop. The interior is non painted. The original wrap is tight and free off scrapes and bruises. The L cymbal mount it there, but missing the arm. The rail is complete. It also has the telescoping spurs, but has four of them. Two of the arms are missing. The 12 is nice, complete with white interior. Red felt/bat dampner. The floor 14" tom he had at home, but claims the interior is white and is the nicest of the three. Might this set have a date somewhere stamped? I noticed that underneath each of the lugs there seemed to be a red? colored thin gasket? I have never seen this before. It will be fun to clean them up and bring them back. After much discussion, we agreed to $450.00. I thought I'd share my find. I'll post some pictures as soon as I get it home. Armond

sounds like a good deal to me but I can't recall any Ludwigs with red felt gaskets, or gaskets of any kind......

Sounds like a decent deal. This could be a real gem if there are'nt extra holes. Those gaskets don't sound right. There could very well be a date stamp. Should be in red ink. Will have to look at pics to see what you really have there. good luck.

Ludwig's Vistalite Kits used to come with gaskets behind each of the lugs, but I've never seen a Downbeat Kit with any. Something doesn't seem right here.
