I keep going back to Rogers Swivomatic Drums

I usually like to keep a Rogers Swivo era set in my drum collection. Here are a couple more sets that I've owned. I also have owned a blue sparkel set configured 18-10-12-14. the 18" was a converted floor tom and the 10" was a raw shell wrapped to match and with Rogers lugs. I have no pictures of that little set.

Nice kits. The pink strata is quite rare in my experience, and especially so if all drums had a uniform version of the wrap that isn't cracked.

The fact that few were made, the control on the runs of wrap used on a particular set was poor and the early failure of the wrap makes a really nice one very rare indeed.

I had a not-so-rare black strata set a few years ago. I did not want to let it go, but it was one too many sets at the itme. That one had very nice wrap, but it is not nearly as hard to find as the pink. I've had one very nice blue set 6 or 7 years ago. I've never had that beautiful pink model.

There were three different--very different--looking versions of the pink strata wrap on these four drums. There were no cracks. but, I became obsessed about the differences. the 10x14 sounded great

on a floor cradle.

Did you get those pink strata from Maxwell's by any chance?

Fantastic looking drums. Question: Did you ever, or did you know anyone who ever used the canister throne regularly? They obviously look awesome, but their practical use - a non-adjustable seat that could probably not easily carry all the needed hardware - has always escaped me. Of course, that doesn't stop me from wanting one!

Also, what's with that tom with both legs and mounting hardware on the Pink Strata kit?

I'll answer the questions that a couple folks asked. Firstly, I did not get the pink strata set from Maxwell. I traded an individual for it. Secondly, I didn't jack with the Swivo mounting hardware on the 14" tom. I Started off using it in a two up configuration. Then, I acquired the tom cradle which worked out real well to convert the set to have a two down set up. Thirdly, you must remember that I'm not a kid. A lot of drummers i saw as a youngster used canister thrones. The one that you see in the picture with the champagne sparkle rogers drum set was custom made for me. it's a couple inches shorter than the garden variety canister throne. That shorter canister throne is also 14" in diameter as opposed to the usual 12" diameter. The seat has about triple the padding as the usual throne. I would never pack any hardware in my canister throne.

The set I had was 12", 13", 14" mounted toms, and 16" and 18" floor toms, plus 2 bass drums, 20", and 22", all custom ordered as factory originals. The snare which I didn't get was a 14"X6" matching wood shell pink strata dynasonic. Like yours not all the wraps looked like they were from the same lot. Two of them differed. But that snare alone would have cost me as much as all the other drums did combined.

To me, there's nothing more beautiful (in terms of drums) than a Rogers Swivomatic kit in either blue sparkle or black. Something about those colors and the Swivo hardware that just looks SO dang good! I like other finishes, too...but blue sparkle or black is the shiz.
