I Just Bought a Powertone

Loading...

I bought this nice Dayton era cob Powertone from a shop in Kansas. I figure this will do until I can find a matching snare, chrome snares go with anything.

Nice and a cob, what year would that be?

I made a great buy on a 1963 COB Powertone several years ago. I saw it at a vintage guitar show. It had the wrong snare strainer on it. I bought it for $100. I had a clock-face strainer in my drum parts stash. a five-minute swap out of the wrong strainer for the clock-face strainer was all it took to have a righteous drum. It's a solid 9 on a 10 scale. But, I still prefer a wood-shelled snare drum.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Yes chrome looks good with any kit but that drum will look really good with that wrap. I know because I have a black diamond pearl kit and the chrome snares look great! Besides it's a Rogers drum and it will sound great.

Thank you!

I'm not sure, perhaps someone here can tell by the tag on the interior.

Nice. '67/68 I would guess, though my memory of the Rogers dating has faded recently. That drum can be described as a work horse. Almost impossible to fail to cut through too.
