I barely had time to read the ad and look at the pictures. I was afraid someone else would grab it while I was reading.

I clicked the buy it now and then went back to read. LOL

Talk about an impulse buy.

Still, I have always wanted a white pearl.

I really really love that Slingerland snare I recently bought.

And, I sold my Gretsch jazz kit last month and I don't have a 12/14/20 anymore.

It was $738.00 including shipping. That might be a little more than it's worth but it has a lot of things I've been looking for.

Those shells don't look like mahogany. Were they using maple then? Looks like I have a little reading to do.

Well, this makes drum set number 32. Which is actually a lot of drum sets considering I've only been playing drums for 31 months. LOL

Love to hear comments good or bad.

Nice pickup! Of course, I might be a little biased since my set is a WMP Slingerland kit. Change your toms to 13/16 and they could almost pass for twins. Cool1

Slingerland started using maple instead of mahogany for the inner play on their three-ply drums in 1963. Your drums' inner ply is maple, the middle ply is poplar, and the outer ply is probably mahogany.

Man, I would really try to get the snare that went with that set.

The Modern Jazz Outfit is cataloged with the COB Sound King, but the listing says it's a matching snare ( by wrap?)... so it might be a Hollywood Ace or Artist, or maybe one of the Student drums.... even a Radio King, who knows......

Definitely worth looking into.....

That is a very sweet kit. Nice snag. I love those sizes and agree whole heartedly with Kevins. You really should investigate that snare. One of the hardest things to do in this goofy hobby of ours is to match the aged wrap of a kit from one drum to another. If it's a match from the factory, you are golden.

You did great. I have that same kit! The wrap looks pretty white, not very "mellowed". I can't believe they went that cheap(inexpensive). Either they wanted to get rid of them fast or they didn't do their homework! My consolette was in worse shape than that. I just took the flaking chrome off on my wire wheel and then used my buffer to polish the bare metal. It came out real nice.

So, you guys all think I did OK with this one? I'm not real knowledgeable about Slingerland and I wasn't 100% sure what I was buying.

When I saw the buy it now at $599, I jumped. I had a good idea that was a deal but I wasn't 100% sure.

It was only listed for a few minutes when I bought it and in the time it took me to click the buy it now and pay for it, TWO other people bid on it. LOL

I am really excited. This is 99% of the outfit that I always wanted.

I'll let ya know how the snare portion goes.

Actually, I have sold most of them within months of buying them. Catalina Birch, Catalina Maple, Catalina Club Jazz, a bunch of low end stuff like Pearl Forums and all that. All part of my learning curve.

I currently only own 8 sets.

1959 Ludwig

1962 Rogers

New Pearl Rhythm Traveler

1999 King BopKat

TD-12 Roland digital

TD-20 Roland Digital

A cheapo that I leave at a regular venue for practice

And, now, the 1964 Slingerland

As well as assorted snares.

What should I get next? LOL

The snare is an 8 lug maple snare called a "Hollywood Ace".

I don't know anything about that model but I did a quick search on eBay and they seem to sell for $200 to $300. I offered $225 and he said OK. So, I have all 4 pieces.

I'm so excited. He said he would ship today or tomorrow. :)

I have been reading all the great poop here about Slingerland. By the time it arrives, I'll actually know what I bought. LOL

Kudos to all who put this forum together. What an awesome resource. If I had not stumbled onto this forum, I would have never bought my first vintage drum. All the posts made it sound like the old vintage stuff is the cat's meow. I just had to know what it was all about. You guys sure have helped educate me.
