Good luck finding replacement snares.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

I believe that’s an early 80s model.

I agree with leedybdp, which is why I went with the 70s model over that one with the more common parallel strainer.

I've played a few.

Too gimmicky and finicky.

That is precisely my thinking on all "high zoot" gadgetry on snare drums--especially the Rogers Dynasonic snare drum.

According to the 1980 Pearl catalogue that would be an S-017 parallel action strainer on a B4515X chrome over brass snare. I've never owned a parallel version, but have had a few non-parallel 4515's and love 'em.

1964 Ludwig Champagne Super Classic
1970 Ludwig Blue Oyster Super Classic
1977 Rogers Big R Londoner 5 ebony
1972/1978 Rogers Powertone/Big R mix ebony
60's Ludwig Supersensitive
Pearl B4514 COB snare ( the SC snare)
Pearl Firecracker
PJL WMP maple snare
Odds & Sods

Sabians, Paistes, Zildjians, Zyns, UFIPs, MIJs etc

If it doesn’t have a parallel strainer, it’s not a Jupiter.

I never said it was. What's your point?

My point is, there is no non- parallel version of a Jupiter.

My point is, there is no non- parallel version of a Jupiter.

Which is why I avoided the nickname all together and used the model numbers. Though they have had different model numbers over the years, 4214 custom brass snare drum in the earlier 70's then the B4514 from around the '75 catalogue onwards, these sport exactly the same 3 lined COB shells as the Jupiter. So yes & no. There is effectively no non-parallel version that is LITERALLY called a Jupiter, but yes the same snare with a gladstone style strainer instead of a parallel action strainer does exist. It just doesn't sport the name of a planet. & interestingly by the 1980 snare catalogue (the very catalogue in which the OP
