I found the original strainer...

Today I was lurking on ebay, studying the snares...you know, learning, since there is nothing I can do at the moment thanks to a bad Visa Debit account...later on that incredible story...anyway, I have this really neato coolio little strainer that is an early Star model, very simple design, and slick as greased lightning. So, I am looking at this old Rogers Banner snare and this familiar looking strainer is there...and of course I think it is a replacement/rip-off replacement type of deal. You know the type of scum that takes original parts and changes them out for MIJ stuff thinking no one will notice there isn't the correct parts. So, then there is another, a Monitor model and it has the exact strainer on it. Very cool! So now we know the original inspiration came from.

Hey Jonnistix! Yep, I thought the same about these strainers as well. Check out two of my snare drums with the same strainer. The difference is that the lever on the actual Rogers strainer bends the opposite way from the MIJ copy. The Blue Sparkle is an Apollo, which I've since sold. All original down to the King's Stone batter head! The silver sparkle Mitchel drum has already had the strainer cleaned, polished and the tension adjustment rod straightened. Oh yeah, this is the drum awaiting an air vent grommet!! No pressure of course! I also have a third snare drum, which is a Lyra in Oyster Blue, which was missing the same strainer. I found an actual Rogers strainer for it on eBay! Still need to put the Lyra together. Pics will be posted when done.

Hey Mark. This blue one is the same shell as this pretty little one you just picked up. I sanded some snare beds in it and lacquered it and it sounds amazing. Not at all like a MIJ snare. More like an American. The strainer has a cosmetic hickey on the face, but the chrome doesn't count toward pure sound. I only wish I could find one of these sweet little strainers in really good condition, but then, I sometimes prefer some bruises to a pristine showpiece.
