How would describe these cymbal sounds?

I really love the ride cymbal sounds in the following links. My question is:

What types of cymbals (old A's/K's? sizes/weights? a specific era maybe?) should i be after to get these type of sounds?

(Yeah, yeah, the Disney cartoon is corny but my kids were watching it and the sound of the cymbal really caught my ear. The audio is better in the first link but this second link of the "video" of this old peggy lee recording i'm sure would also interest many of you. What kind of kit is that? The snare looks just like my light blue pearl '59 slingerland.)

Ah, but I digress. Here's the second cool cymbal sound. This clip was linked to a while back in a thread from a member on this forum, who is the drummer. I love the sound of the cymbal he's riding at the start of the tune:

To me, the cymbals in both clips sound old, jazzy, dark and trashy. If anyone can direct me to specific type/weight/year etc etc... of cymbals that sound like these, I would appreciate it!! Any info would be helpful. Or, if anyone has any to sell ... hmm ...

Working on a 70's Maple Slingerland 8X12, 15X15, 16X18, 14X22, "nesting" kit, 1958 Maple Student Radio King.

OK, Maybe I can help a bit with the cymbals. Look close at the video and the first important thing to note is that he is playing with brushes. Also look at the top cymbal of the hats. It has a square bell like a china cymbal and when he does that hi hat accent hits you can definately hear the trashiness of that cymbal. The ride looks to be about 16" or so and yes it does have a very distinctive sound, especially being played with brushes. It almost sounds like a heavier weight cymbal as it has a bit of "clangyness" to it.

In that live clip he is using sticks but the cymbal has that same "clangyness". You can see that it also looks like a 16" and I would guess medium weight. Also he is crashing on what looks like a 20" ride and if you look closly that ride has a "chain" lying on top giving it a "rivet sizzle" effect.

I think one way to get close to finding something with that sound is to play any cymbal you can get your hands on using brushes. If you find one that sounds close it should be a clue to size and weight. Then just try to find something vintage that may match.

This will now become your "Holy Grail"!!!

If nothing else, you guys should really watch that Peggy Lee clip. It IS classic. Go to :40 sec in. (There, I've just saved you 40 seconds.)

i'd say the ride in the #1 clip is a fairly heavy smaller diam. 18inch cymbal.or smaller even as it has a pretty high tone for a ride and a quick decay. It sounds very old school.

I agree 100% on all of the above. And this one is most likely an old A.

I would say to come as close to this as possible I would recommend a large stamp. That's mid 1950's and they are often like this one. High tone, dark background, quick decay. Yeah that's it in a nutshell.
